Automation of hardness testers

To save 80 % of your testing time:
Automatic control of your hardness tester and motorised XY-stage

  1. 1.) open a test plan (stored test plan - PC-software SHP-Video)

  2. 2.) find start position (for example: Edge of test sample for CHD)

  3. 3.) show direction of hardness course with arrow (direction to core hardness)

  4. 4.) …and leave the hardness tester for the next 15 minutes until the software shows:

" Ready all indentations: Please start measuring… "

now you are measuring continuously all indentations: The system will drive the specimen (indentation after measuring) within 1 - 2 seconds to the next indentation. Each indentation can be measured by easy and very quick mouse click (approximate 3 - 10 seconds each indentation. Optional there is an image analyses module available for automatic measuring of the indentation (VBK-Modul). At this semi - automatic system    CMS-Drive the focussing of the image (depending on the quality of horizontal positioning to optical axis) has to be adjusted when next indentation is nor sharp enough for measuring. Optional an automatic control of z-axis (SHP-DrivePlus) is available to receive a full automatic hardness testing system.

At older hardness testing machines the standard eye piece ocular will be replaced by a high resolution digital USB-camera. The Vickers indentation will be freeze at the monitor. The evaluation of the hardness is done with only four mouse clicks within seconds. Directly after the four clicks you will have the result of hardness test at the monitor. With a right click you will send the result to the database for storing, processing, printing test certificates. Especially the measuring of hardness courses CHD, RHT, NHT and their graphical displaying and evaluation are much more comfortable and within a shrunk period of time: Save up to 80 % of your working time (comparing old analogue measuring with acquiring results of hardness from paper tables).

Optional available is an automatic image analyses (VBK - Module) or extending the machine to semi-automatic or full automatic machine with motorised XY-stage

Already in 1994 our company was the very first supplier of modernisation of hardness testers with ground glass screens by using a standard measuring calliper. We designed the clamping system to bring this standard calliper in front of the screen glass of the hardness tester. With special software the evaluation (modernisation) was done for a very low price. With PC software you will decrease your efforts for evaluation to a minimum. Within second you will have the final result.

In the mean time all competitor in the range of modernisation has copied our system and this became the standard for an affordable and effective modernisation of old hardness tester

As "contrivancer" of the affordable modernisations we set bench marks with improved hardware:

We are using only MITUTOYO calliper with “absolute” zero point:
The copier of our system are still using the old fashioned technique of SYLVAC. With the new MITUTOYO it is no longer a problem to switch of the system at every position: Never loose the correct zero of the calliper again.
Of course: This system is a little bit more expensive – but it pays…
And: We are using USB - system...!

But the biggest advantage of the system is the continuously improved software: Install by yourself within minutes and start working without intervention of a technician – the easy system you control yourself because of self explaining software with high quality features

The conventional test of Vickers or Brinell is time consumable and contents mistakes for wrong reading and interpretation. The requirements of a modern quality management system need a traceability of documentation. The conventional, old evaluation of hardness testing Vickers or Brinell is too complex:

  • Control that correct optic is in use and you have the correct ruler (scale)

  • Measuring and estimation of the diagonals (between the scale marks

  • Calculation of the average

  • Acquiring the hardness value form hardness tables

  • Controlling of limits

  • Processing of statistic

  • Insert into a protocol

For all hardness testers with ground screen glass it is the state of the art to measure with electronic equipment and software: efficient evaluation and documentation “without calculator, paperwork’s, tables etc.". Use the calliper and position at the diagonals, push the foot / hand paddle and receive directly the result of hardness.

The system is designed that the standard ruler will be replaced with the electronic scale. The old mounting system can still be used: Only slide of the old and slide in the new profile: The old t-slot stones will fit to the new system…
At the PC you don’t need to change hardware: Install the software by double click on setup, click in the USB connector, plug in the dongle and start the software with the desktop coupling: In standard the software is using the port no. one and the system is ready to run: push the paddle and receive the first values…

Modernisation of WOLPERT hardness tester for Rockwell

Into the frame of the machine we built in an digital gauge. Depending on the type of machine we deliver different assembling kits for mounting this gauge. The measuring system itself does not content a display for Rockwell results. Additional to the hardware you will receive a PC – WINDOWS software.

The measuring gauge will transmit the measuring values online to the PC hardness testing software SHP150. On the PC you will find a virtual gauge for preload. The result itself will be displayed directly as numeric values after the test.

Below you see the software tool / elements for to control the machines:

The circular virtual “gauge” (here in green) will show you the actual state of the test. For orientation the colour of this will change and the circle will close more and more until you will reach preload (at 12:00 h of the clock = preload reached):

  green  circle not 100 % closed  "preload not reached – go on turning"
  yellow  circle close, preload reached  "please apply main load"
  red  circle closed, over stroke preload  "please stop – perform new test"

After the loading and unloading of the test load the result will displayed directly at the virtual display on the PC software. For processing in statistic, histogram, SPC graphic you may store this values into the database or print a test certificate. See the description of Software SHP150.

 

Modernisation of hardness tester with programmed electronic

SHP-Panel Evaluation of Vickers, Brinell and Rockwell

The electronic supports following electronic equipment:
- digital calliper from system SHP150
- digital gauge from SHP-Rockwell depth measuring system
- incremental scale from HEIDENHAIN (REICHERTER – hardness tester)
- incremental scale EMCO
- incremental gauges from WOLPERT (HEIDENHAIN MT12 depths measuring Rockwell

special lay out for rough environmental situations like:
foundries, casting company, hardening shops

The system SHP-Panel is designed for simple and easy evaluation of hardness tests. The internal programmed micro controller will be feed with electronic signals form the electronic equipment named in the top.

This equipment may be already on your side (equipment of the machine) or will delivered form our side.

The electronic ruler (for Vickers or Brinell) or electronic gauges (for Rockwell) delivers the measured values to the electronic SPH-panel. Depending on the configured test parameters (optical magnification, test load, hardness scale) the electronic converts the values to desired hardness values directly after the test.

The real value will showed on the display. Optional you are able to insert an alpha numeric ID code by using the foil keypad panel of the electronic and transmit it to the additional software SHP150 for to store it into database for further processing.
