Rebound
hardness testers
(standardised
in DIN 50156 and ASTM)
working
principle
A
preloaded spring will throw a probe (body with integrated hard metal
ball) with defined speed on the test piece. The measuring system
compares the throwing speed and the rebound speed and evaluated on the
speed difference the hardness in electronic way in scale HL (hardness
Leeb). The result HL or converted results
(Rockwell HRC / HRB / Vickers HV / Brinell HB / Shore HS) will be
displayed directly on the LCD panel.

Rebound hardness tester explanation in Wikipedia |
UCI Härteprüfer
Ultrasonic Contact Impedance
working
principle
At
the
UCI hardness testers on the probe there is applicated
a Vickers – test pyramid 136° made from synthetic diamond. The probe
will activate to resonance. The indenter will penetrate with defined
force (spring loaded) the test piece. Depending on the hardness the
penetration depth is different. So the damping of the resonance will
be different as deeper (weaker) the material is. The difference
between applied resonance and measured damped resonance will show
with high precision the hardness value (or converted to other
scales). The equipment will be calibrated to YOUR material. The
hardness tester is designed as a portable system to evaluate the
hardness of materials in the same alloy characteristic. The
reliability of the system is limited depending on the E-modulus. If
you are not sure that the alloy is in a special range / type of
alloy you will receive wrong results. So if you are testing a
austenitic steel with a calibration of low alloyed carbon steel you
will have an error in hardness as wide as the difference between
this two types of alloys is: carbon steel 210.000 MPa / austenitic
steel 195.000 MPa) = ca. 7 % mistake of result. |
penetration depth
working
principle
At
the bottom side of the equipment there is mounted a Rockwell
indentor. The hardness tester will operated by pushing the specimen
support plate (at the bottom) toward the test specimen. For this you
will press with both heels of two hands from top on to the wings of
the hardness tester. The test load for the indentor will be applied
by high precision spring load. The indentor will penetrate the
specimen. A high precision depth measuring system will measure the
stroke of the indentor into the material. After a duration time
(electronic will control a minimum time period) the result will be
indicated directly at the LCD display. The result will be converted
to all common hardness scales. |
Portable clamping hardness tester
(possible:
DKD - calibration)
working
principle
A c-shape clamps the test
piece like a mounting clamp. The test load will be applied by spring
loading system (maximal ca. 187.5 kg or 3000 kg) with hand lever
(with crank handle and gear box) with high precision. At the smaller
equipment (187.5 kp) a depth measuring gauge will show direct after
the test the depth of penetration (Rockwell) or HBT / HVT (depth
measuring of Brinell + Vickers). For norm conform testing you also
are obliged to measure the diagonals of indentation by using a
portable optical microscope.
At TBH equipment you may evaluate the hardness by using a portable
microscope.

UCI hardness tester IN-HV450 – ready to use equipment: €
3.395,00 test stand for stationary use if the hardness tester
€ 1.595,00
Portable, easy to use
High accuracy hardness test
Digital indication of result
Direct converting and displaying in different hardness scales
Option to calibrate the equipment also for values outside
standard ranges
The INNOVATEST IN-HV450 hardness testing equipment differs
completely from traditional hardness testers. In place of measuring
diagonals of the indentation (Vickers / Brinell) with optical
measuring system or with depth measuring system (Rockwell) this
testing method is using a complete different physical principle.
A synthetic diamond is applicated on to a test probe. This diamond
is shaped like a standard Vickers indentor. The probe will set under
oscillatory pulsing (approximate
ca. 80.000 Hz). The testing force will applied by a spring load when
pressing the probe holder on to the test sample. A precision spring
will grant that the required test load is applied with high
accuracy.
The dumping of the probe (measured dumping of the
oscillatory pulsing) will be higher as more the indentor will dive
into the test piece. In correspondence to the applied test load the
dumping of the resonance will be evaluated as hardness.
The
E-modulus of the test specimen will influence the dumping of
frequency (the hardness). Testing low alloyed carbon steel or
standard alloyed steel this differences are very small. Her you may
use standard hardness test blocks for calibration. For different
materials (with different E-modulus) you have to calibrate the
hardness tester with different references (carbon steel, aluminium,
zinc, austenitic steel …)
The hardness test equipment IN-HV450 is easy to use. To perform a
test you don't need special knowledge for hardness testing. The
result can be converted to the common hardness scales like HV, HB,
HR, and Shore. Also after the test you may change the scale by easy
pushing one button.
The actual result and scale will be
indicated on a big LCD display. To perform a test the hardness
tester pencil will be pushed again the test sample for some second.
After counting the required penetration time the electronic directly
shows the result. A calibration for different materials can be done
in quick way. On a hardness test block (where you no the hardness
exactly) you will perform 5 "blind" tests. After finishing this 5
tests the equipment asks for the required hardness (from the
hardness test block) to be entered into the electronic. Now the
equipment is ready for testing.
By storing the calibration
you are able to calibrate different testing conditions: From a
standard hardness test up to special customised tests like welding
or competitive testing. Use the IN-HV450 for incoming goods,
material on you stock or as portable tester on testing welding and
tubes on gas or oil pipes. The portable equipments works with
batteries or optional power supply.

The equipment is comfortable and easy in handling. It is designed
for hardness testing at materials from which the hardness are known
(referenced – for example carbon steel, austenitic steel, aluminium
or other.
In principle this hardness tester is not for
"absolute" test suitable because the measurement has to be
referenced to a material you have checked on a stationary hardness
tester or with reference hardness test plates. When you know the
hardness of the material (material class like low alloyed steel,
fast working steel, austenitic …) you will make 5 "blind" tests with
the CV-HV400. Than the electronic will ask you to insert the desired
hardness value. From now on the hardness tester is calibrated (for
example with calibration "Method low alloyed carbon steel". Use this
method for all steels of this group – even it is weak or hardened…
If you are not sure that the alloy is in a special range / type of
alloy you will receive wrong results. So if you are testing a
austenitic steel with a calibration of low alloyed carbon steel you
will have an error in hardness as wide as the difference between
this two types of alloys is: carbon steel 210.000 MPa / austenitic
steel 195.000 MPa) = ca. 7 % mistake of result.

a gear box (see the photo – gear box with yellow stick on it). For this
you turn the hand lever – first quick, coming to the desired load
slowly. The actual test load will indicated on the analogue gauge
implemented inside of the clamping hardness tester (at least this frame
is a spring…). When the needle of the gauge is near the target (see
different coloured signs) you may hold the load for desired time and
than unload the test force.
