Notch broaching machine KRME
for notches for impact tests ASTM / DIN/EN
for weak / medium hard metals, CFK-plastic, GFK-plastic

The conventional manufacturing of notch specimens for impact test is very costly: the specimens have to be cut out with a milling machine or plan grinding machine. Additional you have to insert the Notch with a high precision according to the standards for notch specimens. For this you have to adjust the specimens in longitudinal and vertical direction with a high precision. Also you have to calculate the different thickness of the specimen much easier is to do this by the notching machine KRME. Only insert the milled specimen into the (adjustable) support of the machine and start the stroke. The machine is designed to the notch and the remaining “rest” will get a high precision ground of notch: 8 / 5 / 7 / 3 mm exact (see table of accuracy)

Why is this machine so effective?

The design of the working principle has a following layout: One side of the specimen is clamped again the reference wall. The tooth of the needle does have a fixed position to this reference clamping wall. It is not necessary that the specimen will be positioned in high accuracy (like milling tool) to the surface of the specimen. The remaining distance between the reference wall (specimen surface) and the notch ground will be every time at 8.0 mm. This distance is also 100 % correct even when the dimensions of the specimens are not at 10 mm (thinner material, wrong milling / grinding).

With this machine, laboratories, material testing offices and schools, universities vocational training school are able to make low cost specimens (for didactic even only using square bars).

Broaches are in compliance with national and international standards for steel and plastics. You may perform notches within 30 seconds incl. inserting and removing without making use of any additional tools.

The power operated machine is located in a free standing housing. The broach is drawn by a screw spindle with double guide pillar. The drive is connected to an infinitely variable gear being adjusted by a hand wheel between 0
.35 - 2.06 m/min. Suitable guides provide for a centring feed. The work piece location is provided with a metric calibration scale with a view to a uniform positioning of the specimens. The required notch depth can be set on the machine with an adjustable metric scale-indicator. The lead travels are stopped on both ends by limit switches. The machine is operated by three keys: UP - DOWN - STOP.

SIEMENS AG – KWU - test of ISO-V
specimens with broached notches

Except form a comparison form Siemens AG Kraftwerk Union KWU – notched specimens / milled specimens:

"The results of the impact tests with broached notched specimens meet the results of specimens with milled notches with high accuracy. The machine KRME is very appropriate to make specimens according the dimensions and the requirements for standard ISO – V specimens".

For high alloyed metals with higher tenacity at impact test we recommend a notch tool with titanium coating:
This will serve a essential higher endurance. Below shown values are approximate number of sharpness life.
It will be diversify depending of your material. The life time of sharpness couldn’t be guaranteed. A essential
point of  tool life is also to clean the tool regular (each stroke; each 10 stroke...)
