For specimen preparation in plastic applications there are a few different methods suitable. One of the most common is to punch the specimens by using a hand lever (or pneumatic) press and a cutting tool. This method is used for bone type / dumbbell specimens or parallel strips for materials like films, foils, , thin rubber and other weak material with flat shape. Therefore you put the specimen plate below the press with cutting knife and the specimen will be cut in the shape of the design of the cutting tool. For different shapes we provide different cutting knifes with different geometry.

Alternate we offer thermoplastic casting tools

The result of a tensile is not only the result of a good quality material. Even the preparation of the specimen does have an effect on this. Basic criteria for the test are the condition of preparing the specimens.

Especially at the specimen preparation you have to consider following condition's:

  • temperature of the materials (polymer)

  • design of casting system

  • volume of casting

  • location of casting

  • temperature of casting tool

The different tools are designed to meet the requirements in optimum conditions. So there will be no influencing in test results. We are able to deliver tools for specimen geometry:

Specimens according ISO 294:

Tensile specimens
Type A: casting die for 2 piece of tensile specimens according ISO 527

high speed tensile specimens
Type C: casting die for 4 piece of tensile specimens (short)

Impact specimens
